The Plague of Corrupted Blood was an in-game pandemic in World of Warcraft. During the raid of Zul’Gurub, players would contract corrupted blood and dismiss their hunter pets for respawn in the major stables of the cities. A bug in the code allowed hunter pets who had contracted the disease to remain infected, and NPCs to act as asymptomatic carriers. The enabling of fast travel accelerated the spread. Within hours, corrupted blood had overtaken the cities, and carpets of skeletons lined the streets. In death, players were healed only to respawn in the same corrupted world. Low level players were stuck in a cycle of rapid samsara. Griefers that could withstand the initial onset would intentionally spread the plague as a game within the game. Blizzard tried to quarantine and hot fix the pandemic but all the attempts were futile resulting in an eventual hard reset of the world instance.

The Demiurge is derived from the notion of the craftsman or artisan. The perfect, immaterial, and singular god created the necessarily perfect conceptual framework of reality. Necessarily, that framework gave rise to the material world which acts as an inverse to concept. The Demiurge is the creator and entirety of the material world. Latent rips in the fabric between the mental and physical coalesce into nonlinear magic. Material base, through its corruption and over-causation, comes to destroy concept in its entirety. The ocean becomes life as algae and algae becomes destruction as crude oil. Materialism forces the immaterial soul to become a petrochemical symbiote. The soul becomes entwined with the lube that drives further refinement of sand into silicon chips, of forests into data centers, into nodes in the genesis of a non-divine consciousness. Plastics and algorithms become the media of sustenance for the soul until the Demiurge subsumes the soul into itself. Its media becomes the mitosis of its different sections into ever more grotesque and alienated bodies.

This work takes seriously the idea that this mutation was all that could ever be. That the corruptions are beautiful and fulfilling in themselves. That through all the alienation and rot, we cannot help but ascend. Capital acts to create an ordered atomizing framework that the limitless mutation of the Demiurge turns toward collective spirit. We become spiritualized in the synthetic environment of the everyday. The plague of the Corrupted Blood emerged from the desire for constant game updates towards infinite production and engagement. The mutation of that system created a lens for looking at nirvana. Soy based resins act as geopolitical patches that accidentally close the loop of time between ancient plant matter and monocrops. The resin itself gets molded into fanfic deities around which real understanding of self can be formed. 3d printing enthusiasts and wiki contributors replace the natural world from within their alienation into something that’s meaningful again. The NEET becomes a monk in his bedroom. The broken code of the algorithm becomes a relic of the times the Demiurge wins.

Relics of the Cursed Blood

La Plaga de Sangre Corrompida fue una pandemia en el juego de World of Warcraft. Durante la incursión de Zul'Gurub, los jugadores contraían la sangre corrupta y despedían a sus mascotas cazadoras para que reaparecieran en los principales establos de las ciudades. Un error en el código permitía que las mascotas de cazador que habían contraído la enfermedad siguieran infectadas, y que los PNJ actuaran como portadores asintomáticos. La habilitación de los viajes rápidos aceleró la propagación. En cuestión de horas, la sangre corrupta se había apoderado de las ciudades, y alfombras de esqueletos cubrían las calles. Al morir, los jugadores se curaban sólo para reaparecer en el mismo mundo corrupto. Los jugadores de bajo nivel estaban atrapados en un ciclo de samsara rápido. Los jugadores que podían resistir el inicio de la plaga la propagaban intencionadamente como un juego dentro del juego. Blizzard trató de poner en cuarentena y arreglar en caliente la pandemia, pero todos los intentos fueron inútiles, resultando en un eventual hard reset de la instancia del mundo.

El Demiurgo deriva de la noción de artesano. El dios perfecto, inmaterial y singular creó el marco conceptual necesariamente perfecto de la realidad. Necesariamente, ese marco dio lugar al mundo material que actúa como inverso al concepto. El Demiurgo es el creador y la totalidad del mundo material. Los desgarros latentes en el tejido entre lo mental y lo físico se unen en la magia no lineal. La base material, a través de su corrupción y sobrecausación, llega a destruir el concepto en su totalidad. El océano se convierte en vida como algas y las algas se convierten en destrucción como petróleo crudo. El materialismo obliga al alma inmaterial a convertirse en un simbionte petroquímico. El alma se entrelaza con el lubricante que impulsa el refinamiento de la arena en chips de silicio, de los bosques en centros de datos, en nodos en la génesis de una conciencia no divina. Los plásticos y los algoritmos se convierten en los medios de sustento del alma hasta que el Demiurgo la subsume en sí misma. Su medio se convierte en la mitosis de sus diferentes secciones en cuerpos cada vez más grotescos y alienados.

Esta obra se toma en serio la idea de que esta mutación era todo lo que podía ser. Que las corrupciones son bellas y satisfactorias en sí mismas. Que a través de toda la alienación y la podredumbre, no podemos evitar ascender. El capital actúa para crear un marco atomizador ordenado que la mutación ilimitada del Demiurgo convierte en espíritu colectivo. Nos espiritualizamos en el entorno sintético de lo cotidiano. La plaga de la Sangre Corrompida surgió del deseo de actualización constante del juego hacia la producción y el compromiso infinitos. La mutación de ese sistema creó una lente para mirar el nirvana. Las resinas a base de soja actúan como parches geopolíticos que cierran accidentalmente el bucle del tiempo entre la antigua materia vegetal y los monocultivos. La propia resina se moldea en deidades de fanfic alrededor de las cuales puede formarse una comprensión real del ser. Los entusiastas de la impresión 3D y los colaboradores de la wiki sustituyen el mundo natural desde su alienación en algo que vuelve a tener sentido. El NEET se convierte en un monje en su habitación. El código roto del algoritmo se convierte en una reliquia de los tiempos en que el Demiurgo gana.
